Outline of CA program

Concept

The realization of a carbon-neutral society and the SDGs is a challenge common to all humankind that the international community must urgently tackle together. This exchange program aims to nurture international carbon zero-nization leaders who will be active in industry, government, and academia to collaborate in creating a sustainable Asia of the future. The program will go beyond conventional research and education in specific engineering fields to include research programs that integrate multiple problem-solving technologies, educational programs on carbon zero-nization and the SDGs from the perspectives of economics, international development studies, and other humanities and sciences, international workshops with debates in English, and other activities to ensure quality assurance. The program will be promoted through international collaboration with quality assurance. International joint research and international collaboration with Shanghai Jiao Tong University (China), Korea Maritime University (South Korea), and Chulalongkorn University (Thailand), which have been individually promoted by the School of Engineering and Graduate School of Engineering, Nagoya University, and the "Global The exchange program will be implemented by placing the collaboration among the four universities (abbreviated as "partner universities") with quality assurance at the center of the project, based on the many achievements of international collaboration in education and research, such as the "Human Resource Development Program for Basic Soft Infrastructure" that links Japan and ASEAN, which has been conducted by several departments of Nagoya University from FY2016 to FY2020. Specifically, the program will consist of a short-term educational program (1-3 months) for undergraduate students of the partner universities and a long-term research program (6 months to 1 year) for graduate students (master's and doctoral courses), aiming for an organic linkage of each exchange program. In light of the Corona Disaster, the exchange program will effectively utilize online, actual travel, and a hybrid of online and actual travel. The short-term program will be positioned as an introduction to the long-term program, and will include summer internships in laboratories (travel: short-term experiments in laboratories, etc.), etc., and will be implemented as an international joint graduation program. In the long-term program, a "Carbon Zero-Nization" research cluster will be planned and formed based on the multifaceted perspectives of the four universities, and problem-solving fusion research themes will be set. The program provides students with opportunities to experience research from multiple perspectives (actual travel, doctoral and master's thesis review programs). Both short-term and long-term programs will provide not only lectures in the field of engineering, but also curriculum such as economics and international development studies related to carbon zero-non-irradiation (online; live international classes). These efforts are not limited to partner universities, but also include Gifu University (Japan), a member of the Tokai National University Organization; National University of Singapore (Singapore), a partner university of Nagoya University; Universitas Gadjah Mada Nasional Indonesia (UGM) (Indonesia); Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP), University of Cambodia (Cambodia); and University of the Philippines (Philippines). (Cambodia), and the University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB) (Philippines) to participate in the workshop (online and travel). The workshop will provide a venue for full-scale debates related to carbon zero-nization in English between humanities undergraduate students and science undergraduate and graduate students studying economics and international development studies and native English-speaking students, and will provide a field study opportunity where the connection with society can be viewed as a regional one rather than simply a research and development one. The workshop will be offered as a field study opportunity that will not merely focus on research and development, but also on the regional nature of the connection to society. Open workshops and lectures to faculty and students of cooperating institutions to encourage their participation and promote the development of overarching skills of graduate students in engineering and science as well as undergraduate students who wish to enter doctoral programs. In addition, internships with companies (online and travel), etc. will be offered. Effective exchange programs will be established to realize the image of human resources to be trained. Regarding the framework for quality assurance, based on the past achievements of international cooperation and a sense of mutual trust, a common framework for quality assurance that transcends differences in higher education systems, mutual recognition of credits and common grade management practices, visualization of learning outcomes and educational content, and a joint degree quality assurance framework have already been agreed upon with Chulalongkorn University. We have already reached an agreement with Chulalongkorn University on a joint degree framework with quality assurance, and we plan to establish an objective and convincing quality assurance framework with other partner universities through careful inter-university dialogue. By providing and implementing multilateral exchange programs from short-term (undergraduate students) to long-term (graduate students) with such quality assurance, standardizing the international collaboration system among multiple universities and the methods of acceptance and dispatch, and establishing an international intercultural co-curricular system and system, we will develop leaders who will lead carbon zero emission in Asia in the future. By establishing an international intercultural co-curricular system and system for accepting and dispatching students, we will develop leaders who will lead the future carbon zero emissions in Asia, form a network of inter-university exchange, and further strengthen Nagoya University's ability to expand globally.

Partners

Chulalongkorn University

Chulalongkorn University, founded in 1917, is the oldest and most prestigious national university in the Kingdom of Thailand. It currently has 19 faculties and numerous research facilities, and its campus is located in downtown Bangkok. The university was named after King Chulalongkorn the Great (Rama V) and was established by his successor, King Wachiraut (Rama VI).

Shanghai Jiao Tong University

Shanghai Jiao Tong University is a national comprehensive university directly under the Ministry of Education of the State Council of the People's Republic of China. It is a sub-departmental university and a national key university with particular strength in science and engineering, medicine, and social sciences. Located in Shanghai, it is famous for being the alma mater of Jiang Zemin. The Center for the Study of World-Class Universities of the Institute of Higher Education at the university is well known for its annual publication of the World Academic Ranking of World Universities. It also has several national key laboratories. It is a member of the Alliance of Nine Schools, 985 Engineering, 211 Engineering, and Two-First-Class.

Korea Maritime and Ocean University

Korea Maritime and Ocean University, located in Yeongdo-gu, Busan, is a national university of the Republic of Korea, founded in 1919 as Jinhae High Seamen's Training School, which was merged with Incheon Maritime University in 1947 to become National Maritime University, and renamed Korea Maritime University in 1956. Unlike other universities, all students are required to live in a dormitory for four years during their enrollment, and clothing and bedding are lent and provided by the Korean government. All students are required to complete a one-year basic education course, including onboard training, and those who pass a written exam for a maritime engineering license during their studies can obtain it upon graduation. The physical standards at the time of admission to the program have been significantly relaxed by making the program optional and applying the medical examination standards for seafarers. The company also sends students to the United States Merchant Marine Academy for a four-year program every year.
